A side thread takes place simultaneously to a larger main thread and is generally a conversation between two or more characters. Occasionally, this thread will move to an adjacent location. It allows for hyperposting between players, without flooding the main thread, or having to wait for other characters in the main to take their turn to post.

It is also used in major event threads, such as balls, for activities, such as dances, so that the action of one does not confuse or get lost in the action of the other.
