Season II Summary

Recess II

Owen spent the last week of September in London rather than departing hastily for home. He played lawn bowls with Castlemaine, Darce and Brouckner. He gathered gifts for the family and the King. For the first ten days of November, Owen travelled to Bristol and Brynfield to stay with family and attend business. He dispatched a few letters to Blount, Trefor, and Harrington; he sent a package with fine gloves to Bridget with a note requesting to meet her later in the month at her home; and he posted a letter to St. Mark's requesting rooms for the Spring court. From that time until mid-December, he travelled in Ireland funding agents for new business. He bought another load of gifts as well as a dozen casks of fine whiskey to bring along to Windsor. From mid-December until his departure for Windsor, Owen focussed continually on estate and family affairs, including gifts to the parish. He also would take a couple of days to ride up to Brenockshire and send word to Bridget. At some time during recess, the artist Bambino was due to paint portraits of his family members.

On the early dawn of the 24th of December, Owen arrived in Windsor.

Season III Summary

Owen arrived at Windsor with few contacts and very little social interaction with the Court. He gained favors from the King (carriage ride, garden lottery, and lawn bowls invitation). He improved his relations with Mountjoy to that of a friendship. He engaged Basildon and Arlington in two large financial projects. He is entertaining new alliances with Everhart, Lady Holles, Prince Rupert and Lord Winchelsea. He has forwarded a romantic interest with Bridget Vaughan. He has struggled to keep a good relationship with Blackheath. He dislikes Monmouth, Gowran, Whitehurst, and Adam McGregor. He explores patronage from Winchelsea (and the Finches), Arlington, Rupert, and Basildon.

Politically he has hopes of establishing himself on the Committee for Trade and Plantations. He advances his position as a known Royalist. He presents himself as a Moderate especially regarding religion (acquaintances with Brouncker and Castlemaigne).

He has promoted two projects, the Virginias survey and the Queen's Garden. Both are targetted to produce political and social standing. Through paying Malfort's debt, Owen bought a long political meeting with Prince Rupert at which he advanced a few of his causes.

In business, he has sought to strengthen his position in the trade community. He is monitoring actively overseas trade ventures.

In advancing his romantic interest, he has taken Bridget for a carriage ride in the King's coach; had dinner with the Earl of Clare where he created a favor; made several public events with Bridget: the Christmas Ball, Ranger's Lodge reception (well, it was adventurous); the Sleigh races; and Lady Cavendish's Tea. He has mentioned her to Lady Winchelsea/Lord Winchelsea.

Owen continues his fencing practices. Solo, Basildon, Blackheath, Villiers, Mounjoy.

Owen entertains relations with other persons of the Court. Claire Albright, Lady Elizabeth Holles, Amelia McGregor, Ursula Mountjoy. Peripherally, Mrs. Dawes, Gwendowlyn Llewllyn, Lord Trefor.
