If you are interested in joining the game, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Look at the Starter Guide to Age of Intrigue
  2. Read the Character Creation Tips and other Secrets of the game
  3. Fill out an application using the format set out on the Character Sheet page.
  4. Mail it to admin@ageofintrigue.com
  5. Wait for a response. It typically takes us a few day to formulate a reply with recommendations. You should receive an acknowledgement that we have received your application within 24 hours though.
  6. Make an account with the name of your character (without the title). Your title etc. will be added as rank by the Privy Council. NOTE: you will not gain access to the IC forums till you are approved. However you are warmly encouraged to say hi to the community.
  7. There are always edits to make on the sheet. This is a normal part of the process, and in no way is it intended as a negative critique of your application. If what you propose will simply not work in our setting, for whatever reason, we shall try to be clear on why that is, so that you may submit another character sheet, if you wish.
  8. You will gain final approval, which means we give you access to the IC forums and set up your compendium. From here on your posts do no longer have to be approved by a mod first.
  9. Start playing!

Character Application

Here are some examples of finished charactersheets. To create your own character sheet, please use the outline and instructions found on the Character Sheet page, including the cut and pasteable template: Character Sheet Template. You can consult the Character Creation Tips for some helpful hint, and the wiki is bursting with excellent information.

After you send in your application their will be some mailing to and fro with feedback, requests for change etc. until we create your account and your Player Compendium and you can start to play while we finish the last details. Assume that in total there is a 2 week period to get things settled.

Player Compendium

Each Player is assigned a Player Compendium per character. An example for a Player Compendium is provided on the boards. A Player compendium is a secret forum for each character. In it moderators and player can exchange information about the character, plot and discuss. The player will be a moderator to the forum and so can prettify the forum as he or she sees fit.

Married Characters

In addition to their Player Compendium the players with characters married to each other will have a special Couple Compendium, so they can share information and discuss things with moderators without having to sacrifice all their secrets to their spouse.

Completed Character Sheet

This is the final, approved, charactersheet. You may add some additional approved material.

Dayplanner

Here you keep track of the threads your character has been in, the threads currently played out and future events your character has agreed upon, or wishes to participate in

Character Development

Here you keep track of your character and how events affect him or her, including boons, flaws and skills. On the basis of this listing the moderators may decide to approve improvement of certain skills or removing certain flaws/boons in exchange for others. On the long term this thread helps you keep track and claim accomplishments.

Ambitions

What are the goals and ambitions of your character. Have they changed recently? Have some been accomplished? New ones made? This threads helps you create focus for your character.

Wardrobe

Essential thread as we want you to keep a record of the things you own, especially the clothes. After they determine in part how PC's and NPC's react to you and how much money you have left

Questions to the Mods

Essential for communication between you the player and us the mods.

Ledger

Here you keep track of our money: expenses and money.

Counting Blessings

See Also Counting Blessings

Keep track of your accomplishments and triumphs per thread here.

Gambling

Keep track of your Generic Gambling here.

Mischief Request

Frequently the mods will ask you what plotlines in your eyes are stuck and what you hope for the rest of the season. Frequently overlooked however is all the mischief you see possible for your character. Mischief that you would love to play out, even though for your character they might be bad, or embarrassing, or simply a comedy of errors.

This mischief could include instances where your character faces the skills he or she is inept at, as well as the challenges you have chosen for your character. Try and find some new angles for your character by allowing imperfection.

We therefore encourage you to keep a frequently updated list of scenario's that you would love to submit your character to in your Player Compendium. Only list those that are fun for you to write, as we do not want to submit you to any perceived darkness or something incredibly dull. This is about having fun. Try and think up some mischief for your character that makes you chuckle!

Creating a second PC

Yes you are allowed a second character -- Our only proviso is that you have done 100+ posts with your primary Character.

The reason for this is that you have worked fully through the learning curve that comes with a players entry into any new game, enabling you to create a second character from a position of greater base knowledge of the style, culture and mood of the game. When you know how the rules of society work, it is easier to bend them. In the creation of your second character you may be more daring, take a greater numbers of flaws to offset more boons, make more specific goals, etc.

The application process is the same for your second PC as for the first.

Your Character in the Wiki

Once your character is approved, you may make your own page in the wiki (or one of the moderators will be happy to help you). Remember to properly categorize your PC under Biographies and the various subcategories.

You do not have to list secret information (in fact, you might want to save such details in your Player Compendium to keep the intrigue effect). Any background information in the wiki is considered OOC information, unless it can be considered common knowledge, such as the names of family members or estates of prominent nobles. So, if you do choose to disclose your entire character background, rest assured that it cannot be used against your character IC.
