Personality
The personality of the character, which should harmonise with their background. Here are a few useful questions for considering elements of your character's personality.
- How do they deal with strong emotions, like anger, or love?
- Introvert or Extrovert?
- What do they fear?
- What are the driving forces in their life?
- What is most important to them?
- What is their outlook on life?
Origin/Background
Where your character began, where its roots are and with whom. Please make sure it explains your boons and flaws.
Questions to inspire when creating a background
- How was their childhood? Happy or sad?
- Have they brothers and sisters?
- Were there any significant role models?
- Why did your character leave home?
- Why are they in London now?
- Has your character loved/been hurt?
- What are their morals?
- What would your character die for?
- What is/was his/her most prized possession?
- What is their religion?
- Are they devout or do they just pay lip service?
- What is the proudest moment in their life to date?
- What is their biggest regret?
- What is their biggest secret?
While elements of your background will return in the storylines, this will largely depend on the initiative of players, for instance by writing home. You are encouraged to make use of existing NPC's if they are mentioned in your background (for instance as a patron or enemy).
Adaptations and Advantages
What skills, boons and flaws has your character developed as a result of their unique background?
- Select 2 Boons (You may select additional Boons by taking extra Flaws)
- Select 2 Flaws - what special disadvantages the character has in dealing with its life. At times skills bring with them disadvantages, for instance a person adept at covert activities my find themselves unable to talk about themselves, thus is perceived as aloof by others.
The Boons and Flaws are weighed against each other and must balance.
- Select 1 skill to be inept at
- Select 2 skills in which to be talented at
The moderators will review the combination of skills, boons and flaws to make sure the character is not too gifted. We prefer if you only chose one or two major boons and avoid the classic "girl or boy that has it all".
Circles
See Also Circles
At the start of the game you can belong to one social circle which will determine what NPC's you have access to. It mirrors an OOC forum where you can plot with fellow circle members, gain secret information etc.
Please choose from the following list:
- Political
- Scientific
- Fashion
- Trade
- Military
- Arts
- Libertine
- Proper Society
Immediate Aim
See also Goal Orientated Playing
What is it that your character wishes to achieve upon arriving in London? It is good to have a set of ambitions and goals for your character as it will help you playing.
Creating a second PC
Yes you are allowed a second character -- our only proviso is that you have done 100+ posts with your primary Character.
The reason for this is that you have worked fully through the learning curve that comes with a players entry into any new game, enabling you to create a second character from a position of greater base knowledge of the style, culture and mood of the game.
When you know how the rules of society work, it is easier to bend them. In the creation of your second character you may be more daring, take greater numbers of flaws to offset more boons, make more specific goals etc. etc. etc.
The application process is the same for your second PC as for the first.
Your Character in the Wiki
Once your character is approved you may make your own listing in the wiki. Remember to properly categorize your PC under Biographies and its subcategories. You do not have to list secret information (in fact, you might want to save them in your Player Compendium to keep the intrigue effect).
