Q. Do I need to keep track of money?
A. Of course! There will be a place to do this within your Player Compendium. You do not need to account for every last penny but you will need to have a rough estimate on hand. You can go into the red - but expect repercussions if you stay in debt too long without having taken steps to cover it, such as shops demanding your account is paid, moneylenders that start to bring pressure etc.
